Wordstock: Portland’s Book Festival, presented by Literary Arts, will relaunch at the Portland Art Museum on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Wordstock tickets are $15 and include admission to the Portland Art Museum for the day and a $5 voucher to spend at the extensive book fair, where you can discover a new poetry press, pick up information about MFA programs and writing classes, get book recommendations from Multnomah County Library readers advisory, pick up festival authors’ books from Powell’s, and more. For an extra $5, attendees can view the Seeing Nature exhibit, and PAM members enjoy discounted tickets (book vouchers not included in discounted tickets). Plus, attendees 17 and younger and anyone with a valid high school student ID attend the festival for FREE.
Wordstock will feature more than 80 authors (see the complete list here), writing in all genres and for all ages. The festival focuses on discussions about literature and the intersections between themes of the books we are celebrating. There will be conversations between Cheryl Strayed and Diana Nyad; Jon Krakauer and Barry Lopez; and Tom Spanbauer. There will be interviews with Wendell Pierce, Sandra Cisneros, John Irving, and Stacy Schiff; and panel discussions on topics as wide-ranging as unconventional histories, accidental families, paranormal YA, and so much more.
Wordstock also offers a series of writing workshops on crafting the scene, writing humor, collage-making, and much more. We are also presenting two free classes for youth (advance registration required). More information and registration—which includes your Wordstock ticket and voucher—is available here. Sign up early: classes are expected to sell out!
Good books need good food and good drink. Wordstock will also feature a food truck pod with local favorites Koi Fusion, Bunk Sandwiches, Tamale Boy, and Ruby Jewel, plus a beer and wine garden featuring Widmer Brothers Brewing, A to Z Wineworks, and Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider.
And kick off your literary weekend in style the night before the festival for the first annual The Bookmark Ball: Wordstock Opening Night Party in the Portland Art Museum’s Fields Ballroom. This fundraiser will support the future of Wordstock. There will be drinks, light bites, and James McBride’s renowned jazz group, the Good Lord Bird Band, in performance. The Bookmark Ball tickets at $35 and limited patron tickets at $125 available at Literary Arts.
