1491s: Sketch Comedy Performance (New Date)
Please note this event was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 23.
The 1491s are a self-described “gaggle of Indians chock full of cynicism and splashed with a good dose of indigenous satire.” Admired by fans for poking fun at stereotypes and offering unexpected insights into contemporary Native American life, the sketch comedy group has received national recognition for their mix of irreverent, ironic and highly infectious humor. Featured on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the 1491s don’t shy away from uncomfortable subjects. Using performance art and social media, they have built a large following challenging perceptions and taking aim at the appropriation of Indigenous cultures. This performance is recommended for teens and up.
Presented in celebration of the special exhibition Contemporary Native Photographers and the Edward Curtis Legacy: Zig Jackson, Wendy Red Star (on view through May 8, 2016).
$15 Members, $19.99 non-members. Ticket includes Museum admission.
After 6 pm, tickets are available only at the box office. Limited quantities.
