Artist Demonstration: Jerry Sumpter
Secrets of the Art Studio: The Craft and Vision of the Beaux-Arts Masters
ARTIST AND INSTRUCTOR, PACIFIC NORTHWEST COLLEGE OF ART
Live copying and learning from master drawings and paintings is an essential part of École des Beaux-Arts training and a familiar sight in the galleries of European museums such as the Louvre or National Gallery in London. Over the course of two weekends in July and August, take a deep dive into the materials, techniques, and process of watching a masterwork copied from preliminary drawing to final oil painting. Academically trained artists Eduardo Fernandez and Jerry Sumpter will each select a different painting in Gods and Heroes to demonstrate how an artist approaches the work of completing a formal copy, and they will share their insights along the way.
This is an informal, drop-in program. No tickets are necessary.
