Join us on the third Sunday of each month between October and January for an immersive and family-friendly day of all things LAIKA Studios. Each Sunday will spotlight one of the four major LAIKA films, with opportunities to meet some of the incredible artists who make the magic happen. Get creative in an animation workshop at the Northwest Film Center, and end your visit by settling in to watch your favorite LAIKA films on the big screen, presented by Northwest Film Center.

10:15–10:45 a.m. — LAIKA Insider Tour

11 a.m.–Noon — Panel Conversation #1: The Animators of LAIKA
Whitsell Auditorium
Sit down with a group of animators for a deep dive into their career paths, influences, and the LAIKA creative process.
Moderator: Brad Schiff (Animation Supervisor)
Animators: Rachelle Lambden, Jeff Riley, Jason Stalman, and Malcolm Lamont.

11 a.m.– 2 p.m. — Make Your Own Thaumatrope
Stevens Room
Pop in to make a simple optical illusion or “wonder tuner” toy using cardboard, string, and your own twirling hands.

12:15 – 1:15 p.m. — Panel Conversation #2: Coraline: The Genesis of a Studio

Hear from members of the LAIKA creative team on the making of studio’s first film, Coraline, including the successes, challenges, and what it felt like at the time to be pushing stop motion animation in new directions.

12:30 p.m. — Docent-Guided Family Tour: Stories in Art- Connecting LAIKA to the PAM Collection

Every artwork tells a story. Join a Museum guide for an interactive exploration of the stories told by works in the PAM collection, and in Animating Life: The Art, Science, and Wonder of LAIKA.

1:15 – 2 p.m. — Up Close with LAIKA Puppets-Coraline
Whitsell Auditorium-Lobby
Stop by this informal meet-and-greet (and take photos) with puppets from Coraline.

2 p.m. — Coraline screening

Presented in conjunction with Animating Life: The Art, Science, and Wonder of LAIKA, on view October 14, 2017 through May 20, 2018.

PLEASE NOTE:
Admission: Except where noted, all LAIKA Sunday programs free with Museum admission. The Museum is always free for Members and for youth 17 and under. Tours, panel discussions, and film screening are first come, first served. Please note there may be limited capacity.

This exhibition contains a zoetrope that produces a strobing effect and may trigger visitors with photosensitivity or epilepsy. Staff are happy to direct you to another entrance or answer questions.
