Bunky Echo-HawkIn celebration of the special exhibition Native Fashion Now, the Portland Art Museum partners with Nike N7 to bring celebrated artist, designer, writer, and activist Bunky Echo-Hawk (Pawnee/Yakama) to create one of his eye-popping live art painting performances in the Museum courtyard.

Admission is free all day.

Additional events will include spoken word performances by The Sacred Poets of the Native American Youth & Family Center (NAYA) and a poetry + letterpress intervention with artists Demian Diné Yazhi’ (Diné) and Tracy Schlapp of Cumbersome Multiples. Artist Skye Tafoya will lead a community painting project after the Bunky Echo-Hawk performance.

Schedule of Special Events

12:30 – 1 p.m.: The Sacred Poets – NAYA Youth Poetry Crew Performance (Lanie Grimm, Talise Mendoza-Green, Paulina Gutierrez, Young Woodley).
Location: Lower courtyard/top of Hoffman entrance steps

1 – 2 p.m.: Bunky Echo-Hawk Painting Performance

2 – 3:30 p.m.: Collaborative Community Painting Project led by artist Skye Tafoya
Location: Lower courtyard

2:30 – 4 p.m.: Letterpress & Poetry Intervention with artists Demian DinéYazhi’ and Tracy Schlapp of Cumbersome Multiples. Organized in connection with Dene bāhī Naabaahii on view in the Center for Contemporary Native Art.
Location: Stevens Room
