Fernanda D’Agostino, Sophia Wright Emigh, Jaleesa Johnston, and special guest performer/choreographer Linda K. Johnson will activate D’Agostino’s the map is not the territory installation with their collaborative performance work In/Body. Developed over the past year through residencies at Open Signal and Performance Works Northwest, In/Body explores the intersection of embodied generational memory and our current crises of mass migration and climate change.

Guillermo Galindo
Sonic Borders 2 is a ritual performance by artist/composer Guillermo Galindo using sonic devices made from items found in the U.S./Mexico Border. The work was originally composed for the touring exhibit Border Cantos Exhibit (a collaboration between Galindo and Richard Misrach). Galindo’s sonic devices stem from the pre-Columbian notion that a “sonorous body” can become the medium through which the spiritual, animistic world expresses itself and that there’s an intimate connection between an sonic device, the material from which it is made and the person it belongs to. Guillermo Galindo’s music has been performed and shown at major festivals and art exhibits throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Presently, he teaches courses on composition, sound design, music cultural history, sound and performance and music theory at the California College of Arts. Sonic Borders 2 was also performed at Documenta 14.
Both performances will take place in Fernanda D’Agostino’s installation Borderlines currently on view in the exhibition the map is not the territory. Space and seating will be limited. General admission is $5 after 5 p.m. every Friday night. Museum members are free.
