A project by artist Jennifer J. Woodward
NW galleries on the 4th floor
At the pop-up portrait drawing session on July 21, from 3:30-7:30 p.m., the public is invited to sign-up as live models. Over 4 hours, artist Jennifer J. Woodward will create 10 portraits on site in the NW galleries on the 4th floor of the Portland Art Museum. You are welcome to come and observe and/or sign-up to be a model. Advance sign-up times are available via the project blog at http://fruitsofthesun.com/. Updates about the drawing sessions and thoughts about the project are also available on the blog.
This is one of several pop-up portrait drawing events that Jenn will conduct throughout the summer, culminating in a series of 100 portraits on paper. You can view all of the portraits for a 1 night pop-up exhibition in the Museum’s courtyard on Thursday August 3rd, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
The drawings will be made on handmade paper embedded with various types of seeds at the Pulp & Deckle studio. After the drawings are exhibited they will go to locations around Portland to be planted where the paper will act as fertilizer for the seeds, and the drawings will decay, giving life to edible and flowering plants that will bloom.
Fruits of the Sun is funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council via a 2017 Project Grant.
