Poetic Imagination in Japanese Art: A Symposium

Friday, December 7, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Keynote Lecture
Saturday, December 8, 9:15 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Symposium, followed by a Reception

Please join us for this celebration of the special exhibition,  Poetic Imagination in Japanese Art: Selections from the Collection of Mary and Cheney Cowles. Members of the international team of scholars who contributed to the forthcoming catalogue will speak to the historical, literary, and artistic themes presented by works in the exhibition, and two senior scholars from Japan will offer commentary as discussants.

Tickets are $10 for members of the Portland Art Museum and $35 for the general public. Students are free with a valid student I.D. The ticket price includes admission to the Museum on Friday, December 7; Saturday, December 8; and Sunday, December 9, as well as the reception following the symposium on Saturday.

The symposium is funded by the Mildred Schnitzer Annual Asian Art Lecture fund, celebrating its 20th year of support for bringing renowned scholars of Asian art to museum audiences. Additional support is provided by the Metropolitan Center for Far Eastern Art Studies.
