Youth Poetry Reading
Come celebrate the closing weekend of Poetic Imagination in Japanese Art with a youth poetry reading. We invite young writers—grade school through college age—to share poetry that relates (broadly or specifically) to exhibition themes, such as:
- connections between visual art and writing
- Japanese culture and poetic forms (haiku, waka, etc.)
- translation and cultural exchange
- nature
- solitude and community
- culture and identity
The event includes scheduled readers as well as an open mic. Share a poem you’ve already written or create one on the spot. Poetry is encouraged in Japanese, English, and all languages.
Admission: Free for youth 17 and under and for Museum members. $5 after 5:00 for people 18 and over.
Are you a teacher or school staff, a participant age 18 – 25, or an adult accompanying younger readers? Please contact Hana Layson for promotional code.
