Art & Conversation: The Etchings of Whistler and His Circle

Please note: There will be no coffee portion in September. The lecture will begin at 10:15 a.m. in the Whitsell Auditorium, Main Building. Those attending the lecture are also welcome to explore the galleries after the talk.

Join us the third Thursday of every month for coffee and conversation followed by a lecture or film screening. This month, Mary Weaver Chapin, Ph.D., Curator of Prints and Drawings, will discuss The Etchings of Whistler and His Circle, an exhibition of etchings by James McNeill Whistler and other artists such as Otto Henry Bacher, Frank Duveneck, James McBey, and Joseph Pennell, who were influenced by Whistler’s lyrical, atmospheric style and delicate tonal harmonies.

This series is free for adults 62 and over and is made possible through the Marguerite and Harry Kendall Education Fund. Additional support comes from Rick and Erika Miller.

Blind & Low Vision Tour
Sep 21 @ 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Explore the museum with a docent skilled in bringing art to life. Tours for blind and low vision visitors feature vivid descriptions of works in the Museum’s collection, with detailed historical information and tactile examples.

Tours begin at 1:30 on the third Thursday of each month. Please note there are no tours in August and December.

Free for members and aides; $3 Museum admission fee for non-members. Guide dogs are welcome. For more information, please leave a message at 503-276-4290.

Meditation Tour

Meditation TourEnjoy a slow looking tour experience and object focused meditation. This public tour invites people to relax, rejuvenate, energize and be calm. Using focused breathing and simple poses the museum encourages visitors to meditate in the galleries twice a month on the first and third Thursdays.
