Emerging

New Photography Acquisitions

Mar 10, 2012 – Jun 24, 2012

More than 500 photographs were added to the Museum’s extensive photography collection between 2009 and 2011. Emerging, a selection of more than 50 works, celebrates the diversity and breadth of these recent gifts and purchases. Included are the first images to enter the collection by such exceptional photographers as Adolphe Braun, Berenice Abbott, and Chris McCaw, while photographs by Frederick Henry Evans, Bea Nettles, Mark Klett, Linda Connor, Eadweard Muybridge, and many others demonstrate the exciting trajectory of the history of photography as well as the Museum’s commitment to the collection and display of this medium.

Organized by the Portland Art Museum and curated by Julia Dolan, Ph.D., The Minor White Curator of Photography. Supported in part by the Exhibition Series Sponsors.
