- Instagram, Innovation has long driven footwear design and production with each new material and process pushing design forward in startling new ways. In 2013, architect-turned-shoe-designer Rem D. Koolhaas (@rem_un) worked with architect Zaha Hadid to create the ZAHA NOVA about which he said “hardly looked like a shoe and could have been any design object. That was also the goal: shoes that don’t look like shoes can be the most exciting.” The complicated design included a platform and heel wedges made of vacuum-cast fiberglass. The seamless uppers were rotation molded in vinyl that was then chromed. It was the first shoe to ever be made using rotational molding. 📍”Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting-Edge Kicks” through August 11 — #ZahaHadid × @UnitedNude, ZAHA NOVA, 2013.
