Animate the Beat // Create a Music Video with Procreate Dreams (ages 11 – 14) – SOLD OUT
Camp overview
In this weeklong collaborative camp for ages 11-14, campers will transform music into motion using Procreate Dreams, the powerful animation app designed for digital storytelling. Guided by Teaching Artist and Illustrator Fry, youth will work together to produce an original animated music video for a Portland-based band.
The week begins by exploring classic animated music videos to spark ideas and shape a shared creative vision. Campers will learn how to use tools from Procreate Dreams including keyframing, timeline editing, onion skinning, layered drawing, live motion effects, and audio syncing. They will develop skills in storyboarding, character design, digital illustration, movement, pacing and transitions, and learning how animation enhances rhythm and mood.
Campers will work in teams to brainstorm concepts, share creative roles, and connect individual animated sequences into a cohesive, exquisite corpse–style music video. Along the way, they will practice collaboration, creative problem-solving, and constructive critique.
By the end of the week, participants will premiere a fully realized animated music video to share with friends and family. No prior animation experience is required—just some imagination, curiosity, and a love of music and visual storytelling.
About the teaching artist
Fry (she/they) is a graphic recorder, illustrator, and educator who believes images are a powerful tool for creating positive change. Her interest in visual work is founded in an appreciation for deeper levels of listening, cultivating new mindsets, and allowing space for people to be creative. She is currently based in Portland, Oregon. Fry’s work as an artist extends into the culture of zine making and she has received two grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council to produce publications focused on mental health awareness. She is also passionate about public art and can frequently be found at parks sitting inside her creation Selfie Bot, a public art installation offered to inspire joy and bring together strangers.
