Camp overview

Spark your child’s love of music in this fun, five-day DJ camp designed for kids ages 8–10. Led by Portland-based DJ Ambush, this hands-on program introduces young music makers to the basics of DJing in a friendly, supportive environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and teamwork.

Campers will explore kid-friendly DJ equipment, learning how mixers, controllers, and music software work together. They’ll discover music fundamentals like rhythm, tempo, and song structure while practicing beginner DJ skills such as mixing tracks, matching beats, and creating smooth transitions.

Through guided activities and playful experimentation, campers will learn how music can tell a story, set a mood, and connect with an audience. Working independently and in small groups, they’ll develop confidence, collaboration skills, and a sense of how to use music to tell a story.

The camp wraps up with a lively DJ showcase where campers share their mixes with friends and family, celebrating their creativity, new skills, and the joy of making music.

About the teaching artist

With a music career spanning over 30 years, DJ Ambush has worn many hats—DJ, Event Producer, Art Curator, Podcaster, Radio Personality, Organizer, and Host. Those talents have taken him up and down the East Coast (where he’s from) and have found him a home in Portland, Oregon. He’s driven by a desire to connect with the community across all intersections, and a passion to see people thriving and enjoying themselves.
