Kika (1993) Directed by Pedro Almodóvar. 1hr 54min. Not Rated.

Kika is presented by Director Fits as part of a series on Fashion and Film. Kika is a black comedy by Pedro Almodóvar that follows a young makeup artist sent to prepare a corpse when her attentions bring him back to life. Featuring a Jean Paul Gaultier wardrobe, this stylish film helped cement the “Almodóvar look.”

Kika marked the first collaboration between the French designer and the Spanish filmmaker. Gaultier was responsible for the costumes of Abril’s character, Andrea Caracortada, who played a sadistic television presenter with a love for gore” – Director Fits

Director Fits is a media platform focusing on the everyday sartorial decisions of filmmakers. We believe that directors are an often overlooked group of impeccably well-dressed artists making bold choices when it comes to clothing. We focus on their personal style, the practical garments they wear while they work, their buttoned-up red carpet looks, and so much more. We dive deep into the thought process of a director’s view on clothing and how it affects them as well as their films.

We do not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films, and films exhibited don’t necessarily reflect the views of PAM CUT or the Portland Art Museum. In addition to the synopses, trailers, and other links on our website, further information about content and age-appropriateness for specific films can be found on sites like Common Sense Media, IMDb, and DoesTheDogDie.com.
