Learn to lift your voice in this fun, hands-on camp dedicated to self-publishing through zines! Handmade books and zines are a DIY vehicle for sharing information, storytelling, and much more. Even more so, they are a powerful tool for young people to self-organize and make their independent voices heard.

In this camp led by teaching artist golden collier, campers will gain a better understanding of the possibilities of zine creation by exploring the history, culture, and variety of zines. We’ll enhance our projects using simple printmaking techniques and different layout formats.  We’ll  practice being part of a collaborative creative team using group consensus tools and sharing our own stories.

Campers will become familiar with several different simple and useful book structures to create their own books. We’ll use a variety of bookmaking tools, including binders, long arm staplers, bone folders and more to design and create custom templates. This session will culminate in a gallery walk of students’ individual projects and a celebration of our collaborative group publication!
