Michael Cantino is an artist, braille transcriber, and access technology specialist living in Portland, Oregon. He is currently serving as the Blind and Low Vision Technology Specialist for Oregon’s public schools. Michael has been supporting students with disabilities in K12 and higher education since 2006, and he was recently awarded the Penny Reed Award for Excellence in Assistive Technology Innovation and Leadership. Michael specializes in creating accessible materials for complex subjects, including art, STEM, and wayfinding.

Michael’s art focuses on expanding the limits of tactile media while remaining grounded in familiar tactile conventions. His 3D printed pieces capture an astounding level of tactile-detail while remaining easy to interpret for touch readers. His work has been shown at multiple art museums, universities, and US national parks.
