Stop Motion Animation + Original Score = One Unforgettable Experience!
Step behind the scenes and explore the world of stop motion animation—from story concept to big-screen debut. This unique 4-part workshop series invites youth ages 11–13 to create their own stop motion short film—and collaborate with young composers to develop an original musical score.
Led by animator and teaching artist Andrés Eduardo, participants will develop their own animated short film while collaborating with young composers from the Young Composers’ Project to create an original musical score. It’s a rare opportunity to combine hands-on artmaking with musical storytelling in a supportive, team-based environment.
Participants will:
- Learn how to storyboard and design memorable characters.
- Master principles of stop motion animation including squash & stretch, anticipation, staging and timing.
- Experiment with materials like clay, paper, and wire to bring scenes to life frame by frame.
- Create props, colorful sets, titles, and dialogue to enhance their film.
- Connect with youth composers to shape the sound and mood of their animated story.
The program wraps in February 2026 with a special showcase at the Newmark Theater, where the animated short will premiere on the big screen—accompanied by a live performance from the Metropolitan Youth Symphony.
This is more than just an animation class—it’s a chance for young people to share their creativity, make new friends, and gain real-world skills in collaboration, communication, and creative problem-solving.
Spaces are limited—sign up today and watch your young animator use stop motion animation to bring their stories to life!
