Explore the amazing world of pattern making and bold design! Patterns are like secret codes in the world around us, creating visual connections and reminding us how good design fits together like pieces of a giant puzzle. Teaching artist and illustrator Julz Clementine brings a wealth of creative experience to guide students through a week filled with collaborative projects, mindfulness exercises, and drawing inspiration from the world around us, including visits to the PAM/PAM CUT exhibition Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting Edge Kicks.
We’ll use creative play and the elements and principles of design to generate patterns that we’ll put to use in a variety of ways, including a sketchbook, fabric printing bandanas, and book and album cover artwork. We’ll explore art materials ranging from cut paper and drawing to digital illustration using the app Procreate. At the end of the week, kids will not just have a bunch of cool art to show off, but they’ll also know how to make awesome patterns with their hands and work together with friends in a super fun and creative space.
