We are excited to announce a special collaboration with multiple printmakers and studios during Fine Print Fair at the Museum, bringing live demonstrations and hands-on experiences into the art galleries and Finley Learning Studio. These programs will be included with regular Portland Art Museum admission.

  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Schnitzer Overlook: Etching, Woodcut and Linocut Printing Demonstration with Atelier Meridian: Join printmakers Daniel Webb, Jessica Hartman and Chelsey Hawkey as they demonstrate using etching, woodcut, and linocut printing processes. The artists will describe the technical processes involved in creating fine art prints such as the ones you can see in the Inkling exhibition in the Gilkey center, inking up plates and blocks and unlocking the mystery before your very eyes!
  • 12 – 3 p.m., Finley Learning Studio: Monotype Prints with Atelier Meridian: Learn from printmakers Jane Pagliarulo, Emerson Mitchell, Olivia Noguiera Wheaton, and Sam Weese to make drypoint etchings on plexiglass, and create your own monotype prints to take home.
  • 12 – 3 p.m., Black Art and Experiences Galleries: Artist and educator Melanie Stevens will demonstrate how to create patterns on fabric that convey dynamic storytelling through form, symbols, and color, via block printing. She will cycle through the entire process, from drawing designs to carving them onto rubber blocks and arranging visual motifs on fabric. Melanie is the creator of the graphic novel series, WaterShed, as well as the studio director of black whole Press, a printmaking studio that hosts free workshops and provides resources, funding, and residencies for BIPOC artists.
