Meeples, Tiles, Cards, & Dice // A Family Workshop for Building Tabletop Games
Two sessions: Saturdays, January 25 & February 8, 2025, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Ages 8+
Cost: $200 per group
Join game designer Cat Drayer and friends for two fun-filled days of creativity and imagination!! This hands-on experience is perfect for families looking to bond, create, and learn through play.
In Session 1, families will kick off the workshop by exploring a variety of compact tabletop games, including Sunny Day Sardines and Gasha from 25th Century Games, and Switchbacks by allplay.
With these games as inspiration, your family will participate in a Game Jam session to design and build your own playable game prototype. Each family will use a special game design starter kit provided during the workshop. Take your creation home, play it together at least twice, and use prompts from Cat to revise and improve it.
In Session 2, families will continue to work together to refine and update their game prototypes, making them even more fun and engaging. You’ll collaborate to draft a rulebook and learn about giving and receiving feedback by playtesting games created by other families.
The workshop wraps up with tips and guidance on how to continue testing and perfecting your game at home, getting you on track to start your family game design journey together!
