Artist Talks and Happy Hour - Kate Bingaman-Burt

Thu, 14 Aug, 2014 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join artists from a range of disciplines in the galleries for lively conversations about works of art. The talks are followed by a complimentary social hour with libations and snacks in Museum Grounds.

Along with being an educator and illustrator, Kate Bingaman-Burt is also a curator and author. She creates work about consumerism. Her first book, Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today? was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2010. As an illustrator and designer her clients have included The New York Times, MoMA, and IDEO. She is actively involved in the organization of Design Week Portland and is currently an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University.

For her Artist Talk, Bingaman-Burt will focus on Garry Winogrand’s World’s Fair, New York City. "Garry Winogrand was one of the very first photographers that made me want to pick up a camera and shoot and shoot and shoot," she says. "World's Fair, New York City was one of the first images that made me slow down when looking at photography and slow down when looking in general."

$5 members; $15 non-members; $12 seniors. Space is limited. Advance tickets are encouraged; available online or on site.
