Prints from the Collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer

Overview

Anish Kapoor is one of the most significant contemporary artists working today, notably known for his large-scale sculptures, which include Cloud Gate (2004) in Chicago’s Millennium Park, and Orbit (2012) in collaboration with Cecil Balmond in London’s Olympic Park.

Anish Kapoor: Prints from the Collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer features 18 intensely colorful works that were produced by the artist at The Paragon Press, London, and Crown Point Press, San Francisco. Similar to his sculptural work, Kapoor’s prints do not confront viewers with a narrative. Rather, it is a psychological experience of associations facilitated by color and positive and negative spaces.

Born in Bombay, India, in 1954, Kapoor eventually settled in England and studied at Hornsey College of Art and Chelsea School of Art, London. Kapoor represented Britain at the 44th Venice Biennale in 1990, and in 1991 received the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery, London. He lives and works in London.

Organized by the Portland Art Museum and curated by Brian Ferriso, The Marilyn H. and Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. Director.
