The Museum is proud to partner with Portland Public Schools to host the HeART of Portland: A Portland Public Schools K-12 Arts Showcase–a full-scale production for the first time since the pandemic. The showcase includes an exhibition of over 100 works by PPS visual arts students and an opening reception with student dance, music, and theater performances. In addition, hundreds of PPS students will participate in collaborative art projects exploring themes of identity and cultural and personal storytelling inspired by Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe and Jeffrey Gibson: They Come From Fire. The showcase culminates in the April 23 Miller Family Free Day at the Museum with art-making and student performances in the galleries.
Thank you, Portlanders, for supporting the Arts Education and Access Fund (the “Arts Tax”), which funds arts teachers in public schools and arts nonprofits! Please join us in celebrating arts education in Portland and the students and teachers at the center of this work.
The HeART of Portland exhibition is free and open to the public during Museum hours: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
